Our Process: From Assessment to Remediation
Managing land contamination can be complex, but our structured approach brings clarity to every stage. With extensive experience across diverse sites and sectors, our experienced land quality team can guide you through assessment, remediation, and regulatory approval with efficiency and confidence.
Site Investigation & Risk Assessment
Environmental Assessment:
We begin by reviewing the site’s history, previous uses, surrounding land activities, and any factors that might affect its condition. This initial review helps us understand the likelihood of contamination and guides us on what, if any, on-site checks are needed next.
On-Site Sampling & Testing:
If further clarity is needed, we carry out carefully planned on-site sampling of soil, water, and ground gases. These samples are analysed in accredited laboratories to assess any potential risks to people, buildings, water sources, and the environment. The evidence-based information allows us to recommend the most suitable and cost-effective next steps.
Remediation Strategy
Using the results of the risk assessment, we create a clear and practical remediation plan that is proportionate, cost-effective, and fully aligned with regulatory expectations.
Depending on the site’s needs, this may involve:
- On-site treatment (in-situ remediation): Addressing contamination directly in the ground without excavation—for example through targeted chemical treatments, natural biological processes, or soil-strengthening methods.
- Off-site treatment (ex-situ remediation): Removing affected soil or water from the site for specialist treatment or disposal elsewhere.
Remedial Action & Implementation
Once the remediation plan is agreed, we manage the full delivery of the works. This can include soil treatment, groundwater clean-up, targeted excavation, engineering controls, or other risk-reduction measures tailored to the site.
Throughout the process, we coordinate all contractors, ensure the work meets regulatory and safety requirements, and keep you fully updated on the progress!
Verification & Validation
After the remediation work is finished, we carry out a thorough verification process to confirm that all agreed targets and regulatory requirements have been achieved.
We then prepare a comprehensive Validation Report, including evidence, test results, and all supporting documentation needed by planning authorities or regulators.
Environmental Monitoring
For sites that need continued oversight, we design and deliver tailored monitoring programmes to track groundwater, soil gas, or surface water conditions over time.
This ongoing monitoring helps safeguard the environment, provides confidence to regulators, and gives you clear information to support any future land-use or development decisions.
