Our Process: From Pre-Application to Approval
Navigating environmental permits can feel daunting, but our proven process ensures clarity at every stage. With extensive experience across multiple sectors, our environmental consultants are here to help you achieve compliance efficiently.
Pre-Application Scoping
We start by preparing and submitting a pre-application request to the Environment Agency. This helps confirm:
- The appropriate type of permit application
- The applicable fees
- Any extra supporting documents you’ll need
If required, we can also arrange an Enhanced Pre-application Service with the Environment Agency. This is a chargeable service, and we’ll provide a clear estimate of hours before any work begins. In most cases, the process takes fewer than 8 hours.
Permit Application Preparation
Once the scope is agreed, we move on to developing a complete permit application in line with current regulatory guidance. Our consultants will review any draft documents you have and identify any information gaps that need addressing.
We then prepare all the necessary technical reports tailored to your operations, location, site infrastructure and applicable technical standards.
Technical reports include:
- Non-Technical Summary
- Environmental Risk Assessment
- Site Condition Report
- Management System Summary
- Best Available Techniques (BAT) Assessment
- Climate Change Risk Assessment
We will prepare a Fire Prevention Plan that will reflect the measures in place to prevent, detect, suppress, mitigate and contain fires. Our report will describe where and how your waste will be stored, identify maximum stockpile sizes, how stockpiles are separated, details of available water supplies and any fire detection systems available. Find out more.
Our team will draft site-specific plans and maps using GIS tools and up-to-date Ordnance Survey mapping data.
These scaled plans include:
- Permit boundary plan
- Sensitive receptors plan
- Site setting plan
- Site layout plan
- Firewater containment plan
- Fire rescue service plan
- Dust emission management plan
We have a team of qualified and experienced CIWM (WAMITAB) assessors that are ready to help waste managers achieve a level 4 technical competence qualification. Our approved CIWM (WAMITAB) centre can provide on-site assessments for a variety of UK businesses. Find out more.
Review and Submission
All of this information is compiled into a draft application pack for you to review. Once you’ve shared any comments or requested adjustments, we finalise the documents and submit the complete application to the Environment Agency. You’ll receive a copy for your own records at the same time.
Post-Submission Liaison
After submission, we remain your main point of contact, liaising directly with the Environment Agency to monitor the application as it progresses through the validation, duly making and determination stages. We’ll keep you informed with regular updates and respond promptly to any requests for clarification or additional information.
Our support continues until the Environment Agency issues your Environmental Permit. This approach ensures that your application stays on track and avoids unnecessary delays.
