HSE to make unannounced inspections

The HSE has announced that as from next week it will start conducting unannounced inspections to waste and recycling facilities.

The announcement follows publication last week of the HSEs sector specific plans to improve the health & safety record of 19 industries including waste and recycling, agriculture, manufacturing and construction.

Waste and recycling has been highlighted as a priority sector due to its poor health and safety record with high numbers of workplace injuries, ill-heath and fatalities.

The HSE’s campaign will run to the end of 2017 and will be focused on ensuring that those responsible are taking the right measures to prevent incidents including having proper risk management in place.
