Gearing up for new health & safety ISO

Wiser Environment is gearing up to advise clients on implementation of the new BS ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems standard published in March 2018.

ISO 45001 aims to improve health & safety in the workplace and reduce the thousands of lives lost each year from accidents or fatal diseases linked to work activities. The ‘world’s first global occupational health and safety management system standard’ differs significantly from the current occupational health and safety management standard OHSAS 18001:2007.

OHSAS 18001 is being withdrawn following publication of ISO 45001 so companies that are currently certified to OHSAS 18001 will have a three year period to upgrade to ISO 45001 (by 11th March 2021).

As a key part in our ever growing team, Senior Consultant, Lindsey Stewart who will lead in implementing ISO45001 says: “Here at Wiser Environment we provide bespoke services tailored to your company’s needs. We can support organisations with the implementation of the new standard either as stand-alone certification or as part of an integrated management system. Our consultants have extensive experience implementing managements systems, supporting clients to successful certification in safety, health, environment, energy and quality management. We are fully geared up to start to help our clients migrate to the new standard in the coming months”.

Earlier this month, ISO launched a new technical specification for ISO 45001 to ensure that those auditing and certifying occupational health & safety management systems are full competent and take a harmonised approach.

The EA has updated its odour management plan guidance. Overall, the guidance outlines how operators must control and monitor emissions from their activities that may cause pollution.

Changes include clarifications regarding when the EA will want an odour management plan. They may request one during pre-application, determination, variation or at any point during the lifetime of your permit.

Also, Materials recycling and handle odorous inputs or reject streams and Intensive Farming have been added to the list of Activities that require an odour management plan.
