Wiser Environment helped CD Waste transition to the new ISO management standards within a year

Background

In late 2015, new versions of the ISO standards for quality and environmental management systems were published, replacing previous editions and requiring registered companies to migrate certificates to the new version within three years. Find out more about the 2015 standards.

CD Waste is one of London’s premier recycling companies with their head office in Deptford, South London. The company provides recycling and waste management services to customers across London and processes refuse derived fuel (RDF), dry mixed recyclables (DMR), confidential waste and food and organics at its Materials Recycling Facility and other specialist facilities.

How Wiser Environment helped

CD Waste has held registration to the international standard for environmental management, ISO14001 for over ten years and also holds registration to the quality standard ISO9001. Wiser Environment helped CD Waste with the transition to the new standards which are designed to be easily integrated with other management systems standards.

Wiser Environment worked with CD Waste to set a plan for transition, outlining how the processes and procedures would be revised in line with the new requirements, including moving to the new SL structure, common to all standards.

We liaised with the certification body, BSI, who approved the approach to the transition. We completed a readiness review questionnaire and explained how the business is achieving the new requirements and which changes have been suggested and implemented. CD Waste received excellent feedback from BSI which allowed them to book in a transition assessment and complete the transition process.

The outcome

With Wiser Environment’s help CD Waste successfully progressed through the two mandatory assessments in less than a year in the first year of the three year transition period.

The transition process was made simpler because the management systems were already developed and implemented in accordance with the PAS99 standard for integrated management systems.

Murray Carcary, Commercial Manager, CD Waste says: “Wiser Environment guided us through this transition seamlessly. Their depth of experience and knowledge ensured that we were able to meet all the requirements and gain certification to the new standards in record time. It is a pleasure working with them.”
